1973 Football Team

 The 1973 Vikings finished at the regular season with a 9-1 record and a trip to the South Carolina State Playoffs.  After an overtime win in the first round versus North Augusta, the Vikings would then defeat Summerville to earn a trip to the State Championship game versus Spartanburg High School.  In front of a capacity crowd your Spring Valley Vikings were in a back and forth battle with Spartanburg High.  With minutes to play a Spartanburg High field would leave the Vikings trailing 17-14.  However, on the ensuing kick, Alfonso Samuel would take the ball from his own 3 yard line angling towards the visitors bench.  As he approached the 25 yard line he would hand the ball off to Tommy D’Eredita on a reverse.  D’Eredita would cross the field toward the Spring Valley sideline where his Viking blockers were waiting.  He would then follow his blockers all the way to the endzone for a Spring Valley touchdown and the 1973 State Championship.
